The spot

One of the busiest wing foiling spots in Cornwall, and renowned as one of the windiest places in the UK. The lake works in almost any wind direction and always gives you flat water — perfect for learning and for dialling in new moves.

The wind

South-westerly is best. The wind is often a little gustier than on the coast. A westerly is the poorest direction as it's straight offshore from the centre — but you can always get back under your own steam, even if it means a walk.

On site

Changing rooms with showers, a café, plenty of parking and a campsite — so you can make a weekend of it when the forecast looks good. Hire and tuition are available from the South West Lakes watersports team.

Solution Cornwall

Since 2025, Solution Cornwall have run a lakeside operation at Stithians — demo a range of wing kit, and pick up equipment and spares right on the shore.

Good to know

Sign in at the centre for a day ticket, or become an annual member
You'll need third-party insurance to wing here — joining the BKSA is the easiest way
Wear shoes or boots — there are some sharp rocks at the water's edge
Ask about shallow spots when you sign in to avoid running aground
There's no tide, but the water level drops through the summer — check the signs at the centre
